The Scout Series[1]

Real Live Bronze Indian is one of a constellation of artworks that Greg Hill has created that revolve around this sculpture of an anonymous Indian scout.  In order to fully discuss the performance Real Live Bronze Indian, it is necessary to look at other permutations of this work, and the community furor over this sculpture. Both the installation Monument ForeigN ation and the performance version Real Live Bronze Indian used a video loop taken from a previous performance by Hill, which was titled Joe Scouting for Cigar Store Lasagna, so it is important to analyze this initial manifestation of the work.

Silvio Berlusconi’s restoration work is no cock-up | Tim Williams | Comment is free | guardian.co.uk

It is the controversy surrounding Berlusconi’s decision to restore Mars’s penis to an ancient Roman statue that is misplaced

I can picture the scene. Berlusconi checks his email. “Ever wanted a larger member…?” He pauses, thinks about it for a while. “Well, I’ve had the hair done, and it might impress the young ladies at the forthcoming orgy.” He looks up at Mars, the statue of the heroic god of ancient Rome painstakingly chiselled from the finest Carrara 1,835 years previous. Venus is draped over his shoulder adoringly. However Mars, far from appearing as the revered übermensch warrior of antiquity, resembles John Wayne Bobbitt after a fight with his ex-wife. Then it hits him: “Che buon’ idea! I shall restore his manhood!”

Bridget Riley burst on to the art scene in the mid-1960s with violent, dizzying canvasses, which set out to disturb perception. For Hilary Spurling, her paintings were a revelation – and remain so. An exhibition of new work recalls her early iconoclasm

DIY coffee roaster

So when the doctor told me that I should not be drinking gallons of coffee each day, I decided to replace quantity with quality.  Fortunately I discovered at about the same time what true coffee should taste like when I was introduced to Transcend Coffee in Edmonton.  Unfortunately I live  500 kilometres away in the cold frozen north.  It was then that I realized that I needed to roast my own.
