Walter Allward Catalogue of Works
Walter Allward was one of Canada's best known sculptors of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. From his first public commission at the age of 18 to the beginning of WWI his work in Toronto and Ontario demonstrated both his own romantic nature and the conservative traditions of english speaking Canada at the time. War Memorials in Europe
At the close of WWI all combatant countries erected distinctive memorials to commemorate the war.
Nearly all Commonwealth memorials (except Canada) were the product of the [[Imperial War Graves Commission]] (now Commonwealth War Graves Commission) and display a uniformity of design and symbolism.

War Memorials in Canada
Memorials are built to preserve the memory of a person, people, an event or events. Throughout Canada most memorials were erected to honour the soldiers of the South African War (Boer) or WWI. Commemoration of WWII often took the form of [[Living Memorials]] such as community halls or arenas.
